Stella Maris is an independent Primary school situated in Heaton Mersey, Stockport, where Alex’s Grandma and Grandad, Dave and Jean live. They became aware of the Foundation through a connection to Alex’s Grandparents and kindly decided to hold a sponsored walk to raise money for Alex’s legacy.
And so it was that we all met on a very wet Saturday afternoon in the playground of the school. Despite the weather, there was an excellent turn out, and all the children and parents were well equipped with wellies and waterproofs. The route took us on a 1.5 km loop passing through housing estates and Heaton Mersey Common, where Baxter was desperate to get off the lead but I was not about to let him jump in the duck pond and worry the ducks!
We all arrived safely back in school, a bit wetter than when we had started, and were treated to a welcome cup of coffee and biscuits in the School Hall. The walk was organised by members of the PTA, who we met for the first time, and have to say that we were bowled over by their hospitality, warmth and enthusiasm. We are awaiting confirmation of a final figure, but they are confident that the event will have raised in excess of £500!!
We are extremely grateful to all the parents, children and teachers at Stella Maris for taking us to their heart, giving up their time to organise and take part in the walk, raising money and helping to spread awareness of the Foundation.
