Oh what a night!

Oh what a night………..! We can’t think of a better phrase to describe our 4th Annual Star Ball, held this year on Saturday 11th July at the delightful Cottons Hotel & Spa in Knutsford.

suzdaveGuests were entertained on arrival by the fabulous Midweek Sax, headed up by Alex and Matt’s Primary school teacher, John Byrne along with James Anthony the unbelievable table magician who can set your wallet on fire at the flick of the wrist!! Allen from ANG Photography provided the backdrop and the props so all that was needed was a pose for a fantastic memento of the night. Visit www.ang-photography.com/cottons-event to see the results.

We took the decision to Compere the evening ourselves as we hoped this would make it a more personal experience for us and all the fantastic people who joined us. We were delighted that our Patron, Jane Baugh, was able to make the welcome address and she stunned us all when she asked who was at the Star Ball for the first time and almost 50% of the room raised their hands! With a record attendance of 161 people we were amazed that almost half were newbies!

samSam Tuitupou, our Ambassador, also held everyone’s attention with his kind words. We owe them a massive debt of gratitude to Jane and Sam as they both work tirelessly to raise awareness of the Foundation, we are so fortunate to have them on our team.

The whole room was captivated as our researcher, Dr Suzanne Turner and PhD student presented an update on the fantastic progress of the project the Foundation is funded. This was the highlight of the evening as everyone was able to hear first-hand how their donations are making a difference.

The raffle was a roaring success with over sixty fantastic prizes on offer from handbags to golf clubs to amazing days out. We were dumbfounded at the generosity of so many wonderful people and businesses for their donations.

RobertThe auction was offered an amazing array of prizes which included a Penny Black stamp donated by Sandafayre Stamp Auctions of Knutsford, a skiing holiday donated by LivignoSkiHolidays.com, a villa holiday donated by Darren Brown, signed rugby shirts donated by Sale Sharks and TAG Teamwear and a “Chance to Change Your Life’ courtesy of hypnotherapist John McKenzie, to name just a few, but most of all the skill and charisma of Robert Stones, professional auctioneer who had the uncanny ability to entertain whilst doing his job. His presence certainly moved our auction into a different league and helped us to raise over £5,000 in the process.

We were entertained by the amazing Karen Jo Morgan; Karen took us back in time with her rendition of some fabulous Ella Fitzgerald hits and a very special version of Eva Cassidy’s ‘Songbird’. At midnight we celebrated the life of our beautiful boy by with his favourite song; Give Me Everything by Pit Bull and the dancing which followed went on into the early hours.

Special thanks must go to Drop Dead Chocolates for donating the favours for the tables as well as a prize for the raffle. Thanks also to ASK Design and to Nikki Robinson and Amanda Phillips from Avid Solutions for their help and support with the event.
